Amazing tour.
I have traveled extensively through Indonesia and yet had never been exposed to the real conditions of its poorest people until taking a Jakarta Hidden Tour. Being with the poorest of the urban poor and seeing the conditions that they are subjected to is unlike any experience I have had in SE Asia. My immediate impression of Ronny and Anneke was that they are passionate about social justice and helping others less fortunate- we had some great discussion and learned a lot. I was touched by Ronny’s generosity and patience for the dozen or so men, women and children who would run up to greet us, talk to us and thank them for recent donations, free schooling and medical services that they help to provide locally. Having quiet, yet enthusiastic, discussions with people living in horrendous conditions was very moving. I can speak bahasa Indonesia and heard first hand from people in 3 kampungs how Ronny and Anneke work tirelessly for them. So I would like to encourage anybody that is interested in taking a poverty tour to go with Jakarta Hidden Tours because of the program itself and the positive impact it will generate for the local people via Ronny and Anneke. Thanks for a great experience :) this was one of the highlights of my 4 months in Jakarta.

Thank you for interested in our tour.
I initiated the tour is especially for my concern and my awareness of those marginalized, poor, and left behind. But I also want to introduce the Jakarta city that is very admirable, I suppose: urbanization, economic development, cultural exchanges; also the challenge of a metropolitan city such as planning, regulation, traffic jam, sanitation, environment, as an opportunity and hope for the future. Our tour is also not like the usual commercial tour around Jakarta, but a special tour to the village of the poor and meeting with residents.
Let us ask the regular protocol and some information as follow:* What is your complete name
* How do you know our tour
* What is your contact and address/hotel details in Jakarta
* What is your education background and/or profession
* Which tour do you want. [See the webpage (http://www.realjakarta.blogspot.com)]
* How many people. There is minimum 2 peoples and maximum 4 people per tour, and if only 1 people will be together with other people.
* Which day do you want?
* What time do you want to start. [morning start 9am or afternoon start 4pm]
* What time do you want to be back at your residence/hotel
* Where the place do you want to start [usually Plaza Indonesia in the Centre of Jakarta , or Cafe Batavia in the North of Jakarta (see Jakarta Map)]
* The tour will be travelling by public transport unless you want to pay extra for a taxi
* The fee-donation: Rp. 500.000,= per people per tour location, to pay in rupiah at the start of the tour
* Please dress modestly no short pants and wear strong footwear.
* Camera should be very respectively

Tour # 3

Tour # 2
kota train railway people

Hi Ronny,

I just wanted to say thank you (terima kasih!) to you, Anneke and Tomas for the chance to visit the wonderful people. From the moment I first saw Jakarta, looking out from the taxi window, I was struck by the very different living conditions of people all along the rivers, roads and railways, from the tin and timber houses in the villages to the glass and granite towers surrounding my hotel near Grand Indonesia. Travelling in the taxi from the airport I just got a glimpse of this and it made me want to learn more about the people of Jakarta, especially those who lived in those villages on the margin, in houses that looked as though they were about to fall into the river, clinging onto its edge. The Hidden Jakarta Tour was the perfect opportunity for me to do this. As a short-term visitor with very little knowledge of Bahasa Indonesia I would never have gotten to see these amazing places and meet the amazing people who live there and hear their stories without the help of an intercultural translator such as yourself. I particularly enjoyed the chance to talk with you in the bus, bajaj, microlet, and taksi while travelling to and from the villages in the busy Jakarta traffic. The tour and the conversations were a great learning experience--one that I won't soon forget and one that I'm very grateful for.

I wish you the very best with the tours and with the other work you are doing through Interkultur to support and improve the livelihoods of everyday people in the poorer areas of Jakarta.

I look forward to visiting Jakarta again and hopefully catching up with you and participating in your project again. I am keen to keep in contact with you and with the work that Interkultur is doing and to explore any opportunities to work with or support the project in the future.

All the best,

Geoff.

Hi. I'm an American guy that has been living/working in Jakarta off and on for the last few years. I just stumbled upon your webpage today and would be very interested in going on a tour with you. I am an avid traveler and amateur photographer, but have never really taken the time to "see" Jakarta.
Please let me know if you are available for a tour tomorrow (29-Jun). If not, maybe we can schedule for a different day.
Thanks,
-Ryan

Dear Pak Ronny,
I hope you are well.
That sounds excellent. We are staying at the Manhattan Hotel we can
either meet you there or get a taxi to meet you somewhere that suits
better. I think everyone will be happy to pay the 500,000 with the knowledge that so
much of the money is going back into the communities that we visit.

Would it be okay if I moved our booking to Wednesday the 1st of July,
in the morning? I will be leaving Bandung on Friday and will then be out of email
contact but I will have my mobile phone. My number is 08122044xxxx

Thank-you, Katie

*
dear katie,
1st July 2011
Between
8-9 morning we will arrive and pick you in the lobby of the Manhattan Hotel , also the next day. Our plan is in 2 days we will visit three locations mentioned in the tour website: Luar Batang village - Kota old City - Ciliwung river and kota railway village. We will visit the settlements of ordinary people, then we're going to the market people, and finally to the poor. to Those Who Are neglected, impoverished, ignored.
After the
tour we will discuss how to help those we have visited. glad to meet you and hope you can help us to help the poor people. welcome to Jakarta.
Please
see facebook: Ronny Poluan and Tour Jakarta Indonesia

*
*
ok Katie

see you at Manhattan Hotel around 8 - 9
1st July 2011
It will be a full day tour
please prepare a hat, maybe Jakarta will be so hot, we cannot predict the weather
or maybe rainy and some Kampungs pavement become wet and watery, so just use proper shoes or fixed sandal?
we will go to 2 locations

see you

kind regards,
ronny and anneke
